Faculty and students at HCP can celebrate a successful 2010-2011 school year with the arrival of test scores from the state and the College Board. End-of-Instruction test scores were: Algebra I 99% pass Algebra II 95% pass Geometry 97% pass Biology 85% pass English II 98% pass English III 98% pass US History 88% pass Over 400 Advanced Placement tests were given to HCP students, or 1% of the AP tests given in the state of Oklahoma. 191 of these students passed an AP exam with a score of 3, 4 or 5. Many students were named AP Scholars.  The school also saw an increase in their Annual Yearly Performance Index score. Last year's score was 1421. The 2010-2011 school year saw a score of 1431 out of 1500.

So many events today are loud and wild and crazy, where practically anything goes from the audience's point-of-view.  I have noticed, unfortunately, that it has found its way into the way we treat the performances of our students and children.  It is so disheartening to hear students disappointed by they way the audience acts while they are performing--and even when they aren't.  I found these rules in a couple of places, such as the MENC website, that might help those wondering what the appropriate behavior for a real concert is.  The number one thing to remember, however, is simply this:  BE THERE FOR THE STUDENTS; from beginning to end. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} Concert etiquette   1.       Clapping is the appropriate way to show appreciation for the performance rather than whistling or cheering. 2.      Parents should keep small children seated with them.  If children become restless or fussy, please move them to the outer corridor. 3.      Enter the auditorium quietly.  Once you have been seated, be alert to activity on the stage as the musicians take their place for the concert. 4.      When the conductor enters, it is customary to applaud politely.  Whistling, yelling, or screaming is not appropriate at any time before, during, or after a concert. 5.      Never stand or move around while music is being performed.  Listeners and performers are distracted by sounds from programs, candy wrappers, jewelry and other objects.  Remain still, and be thoughtful of others by talking or making sounds only between numbers. 6.      It is impolite to wear hats or caps during a concert. 7.      It is impolite to eat or drink refreshments during a concert. 8.      Always say “excuse me,” if you must pass in front of someone while going to or from your seat. 9.      Watch the conductor when the music stops to decide whether or not to applaud.  Some musical works have several parts or movements and the audience is expected to applaud only after all movements have been performed. 10.  Make certain that all pagers and cellphones are turned off prior to the start of any concert.       The ABC’s of concert Etiquette   A.    Always remain quiet during a performance. B.     Be attentive and give the performers your attention. C.     Be Considerate of others. D.    Do not leave early, please. E.     Exit in an organized fashion. F.      Expect a fantastic performance; the kids have worked very hard. G.    Give appropriate applause. H.    Have a great time, but be a considerate member of the audience. I.       Invite your relatives to come see an outstanding concert. J.       Enjoy the concert but always treat it as a formal event. K.    Keep your children that are not performing, with you during the concert. L.     Leave your cell phone/pagers turned off during the performance, please.
