Natalie Runnels

Mrs. Natalie Runnels was born and raised on the Oklahoma City / Edmond line, but feeling the need to spread her wings beyond our great state, she graduated from Edmond Memorial High School a semester early in order to spend time studying in Spain.  While there, she polished off her Spanish, taught herself the basics of calculus and physics (in Spanish), and ate enough pork and jamón to last a lifetime.

Upon her return to the United States, Mrs. Runnels enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma, from which she graduated summa cum laude with a B.A.Ed in English Education and a minor in Spanish.  She will eventually return to school to work on an M.A. in English, but right now she is happy to concentrate on teaching.

Mrs. Runnels began her teaching career in Oklahoma City at U.S. Grant High School, where she met her wonderful husband, Patrick, who is an English teacher as well.  However, as often happens in life, things did not go as planned, and shortly after beginning at U.S. Grant, she was called away to fulfill a Fulbright fellowship in Madrid, Spain, where she taught English to 6th-8th graders, ate more jamón, and traveled to a number of countries -- her favorite of which is Turkey and her least favorite, Greece.  As a result of her travels, she has come to appreciate several distinctly American traits we share: the stubborn independence of individuals, a national optimism that anything is possible if you work for it, and an unwavering devotion to blue jeans and ketchup.

Mrs. Runnels has been at Harding Charter Prep since 2012 and has taught both AP English Language and Composition and Pre-AP English II. She was honored to receive HCP's 2018 Carole Kelley Teacher of the Year award.

She and her husband spend their leisure time with their children and their Schnoodle, Jacques.
