Cherith Ferguson

B.A. in English Literature, OU (2007)
M.A. in English Literature, OU (2010)

Cherith Ferguson graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 2004 as a salutatorian, AP Scholar, and National Merit Scholar.  She attended the University of Oklahoma, entering as a double major in English and Drama: Stage Management.  After two years of stage managing into the wee hours of the morning only to come home and write research papers, she dropped the Drama major to focus on what has become her primary love: literature.  Despite all of her credit hours in Drama, she was able to graduate a semester early (thanks, AP exams!) with a 4.0 GPA in her field in December 2007 with a B.A. with Special Distinction in English Literature and Cultural Studies and a minor in history.

Less than a month after graduation, she started her M.A. in English Literature at OU which she completed early, in August 2010. She focused her graduate research on Gender Studies, particularly 19th century British women novelists.  While at OU, Mrs. Ferguson taught English Composition I and II and was the graduate academic advisor for the English department.  After completing her Master’s degree, she realized that her true calling was teaching. She heard about Harding at an OU job fair and fell in love with its mission. This is her ninth year at HCP, where she is the English Department Chair. She teaches AP English Literature as well as the English electives (Creative Writing and Writing about Film), and has previously taught Pre-AP English II.  She has attended three AVID Summer Institutes in Dallas and three AP Summer Institutes in Norman and Tulsa. She feels immensely honored to have received HCP's 2017 Carole Kelley Teacher of the Year award.

Mrs. Ferguson loves to travel and her current favorite places are Santa Fe, New Mexico; Liverpool, England; and anywhere in Wales.  Her husband, Mr. Fergie, is also a teacher here at HCP. They met at the OU School of Drama their freshman year, and they’ve been married for eleven years.  They have two small daughters and two smaller dogs.
