Space Maker

Harding Charter Prep’s new Media Specialist, Jillian Thomas is developing a MakerSpace in the school’s Media Center. A MakerSpace is where students can come and “tinker” with all kinds of materials to create anything they choose. Even though there are no students, as of yet, utilizing this unused small conference room off of the Media Center, the space is fast taking on the characteristics of a MakerSpace in readiness for when students do return.
Ms. Thomas had the initial purchases funded by DonorsChoose, an online funding platform, she stated for the space to be successful long term, it will need a constant stream of materials coming in.
She is asking that anytime any of our community members do some cleaning and organizing around the home, remember this space.
From now on, the library will always be happy to accept your:

  • Old Newspaper/magazines
  • Shoeboxes
  • Cardboard boxes without windows
  • Tin foil
  • Glass babyfood/mason jars (clean)
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Tape, glue
  • Wire
  • Old Lego sets
  • Sewing materials, fabric scraps
  • Art Supplies, markers

Located in a rarely used Media Center conference room, a MakerSpace is awaiting the student Makers once instruction returns to fully in the building instruction.
